The Nashville Section of the American Chemical Society is sponsoring its inaugural Science on Tap event at Mayday Brewery in Murfreesboro. The presentation by Vanderbilt professor Louise Rollins-Smith is entitled “Fun with Frogs in the Rainforest and What They Can Teach Us” (or “Turning Frogs into Princely Drugs”?) and brings attention to the Discovery Center’s new exhibit, Rainforest Adventure, opening May 12. Dr. Louise Rollins-Smith received her PhD in Zoology from the University of Minnesota, did postdoctoral research at the University of Rochester, and joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1984. She is currently an Associate Professor of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology. She takes great pleasure in the beauty of nature, especially the profound beauty of developing and adult amphibians. She has studied disease and immunity in amphibians for more than 40 years. Field projects involved studies of frogs in Panama and at the Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee.
