Hispanic Heritage Day

FREE DAY! 10 a.m. to Noon and 2 – 4 p.m.

Explore the traditions of Hispanic culture at the Discovery Center!


Special activities on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Crafts: papel picado, worry dolls, and maracas
  • Hero Elementary Family Activities & Games
  • SciGirls La Ciencia: Latina role models and at-home activity

Saturday only at 11 a.m.: Hispanic Family Foundation dancers performance

Sunday only at 10:30 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 2:30 p.m. & 3:10 p.m.: Grace Sanchez from GrowingGreat will read a book in English and Spanish and lead “Bean in a Bag” activity that children will complete at home.

GrowingGreat’s mission is to empower children to make healthy food choices through hands-on science and garden education. La misión de GrowingGreat (Creciendo Bien) es capacitar a los niños para que elijan alimentos saludables a través de la ciencia práctica y la educación en el jardín.

GrowingGreat activities include funding from Del Monte. Special thanks to Twin Cities Public television for the activities and giveaways related to Hero Elementary, a new animated television show about the super powers of science.

Due to capacity limitations related to the COVID pandemic, we are offering multiple time slots for visitors to choose from. Please register in advance; walk-up admission will only be available if capacity allows.
