The newest permanent exhibit at Discovery Center invites visitors to enjoy and learn about Tennessee’s great outdoors! The Great Outdoors exhibit mirrors Tennessee’s state parks, which are teeming with wildlife, towering trees, bountiful plant life, lakes, wetlands and waterfalls.
Step into a jon boat and learn about boating safety on Tennessee’s many lakes and rivers. Experience the one-of-a-kind Firefly Wall showcasing the many species found in the Great Smoky Mountains, including the incredible synchronous fireflies. Learn how to tie some knots that will come in handy as you explore nature. Get up close and personal with turtles native to Tennessee, or just sit around the campfire and pretend you’re roasting a hot dog.
Take a break at the picnic table and learn about edible and poisonous plants by playing Shoots and Adders, an original game about native plants found in Discovery Center’s wetlands, then go outside and see if you can find them!
The Great Outdoors exhibit is accessible, bilingual and loaded with fun!
